scb_admin_history Air Chief Marshal Arjan Singh was born in Lyallpur, Punjab on the 15th April 1919 into an Aulakh family. He was trained at RAF College Cranwell in 1938 and was commissioned as an officer in 1939. He served with the Indian Air Force in the Arakan Campaign (1944) during the Second World War. In 1947, Singh was a Wing Commander, Royal Indian Air Force in Ambala. He was Chief of the Air Staff in the Indian Air Force between August 1964 and July 1969 and was air force commander during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1965. In 1966, he became the first Air Chief Marshal of the Indian Air Force. Following retirement from the air force, he served as Indian diplomat in Switzerland, Vatican City and Kenya.
