Lieutenant General Harbaksh Singh was born in Punjab on 1st October 1913. He attended the Indian Military Academy in 1933. He fought with the British Indian Army in Mayala [Malyasia] in the Second World War. He was captured by the Japanese at fall of Singapore but refused to join the Indian National Army. He returned to India in 1945. He was at the military academy in Quetta in the summer of 1947. Harbaksh Singh was an officer during combat with raiders in Kashmir at Shelatang Bridge in November 1947. He was the General-Officer-Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Army Command of the Indian Army from 1964 to 1969 and played a key role during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965. Lieutenant General Harbaksh Singh retired in September 1969. He died on the 14th November 1999. |
