Subjects covered include: Side one: the work of the Japan Rescue Mission (JRM) mission in Tomizama; epidemics in the mission; the establishement of the Janet Dempsie Memorial Hospital; learning to make up medicines; friendship with Mrs Dickons; Kathie Morris' nursing training and arrival in Japan as a missionary; The Rainbow Hospital in Osaka; the birth of the Emporer's son; a story about grape juice; her first furlough [rest] in Cardiff; meeting Marjorie Toms (later Mrs Poley); [at this point the transcript includes a story from the same furlough in Wales, which was not part of the recording]; methods used by the JRM to help girls to escape legal prostitution in Japan. Side two: the transportation of girls, via rescue homes, from brothels to the JRM compound; the ill health and religious conversion of the girls; the miraculous recovery of one child (Kiyoi) from diptheria and their later friendship; reflections on suffering and acceptance; the story of Sayako San and her attempted suicide and death; praying in Japanese.
