Summary: Cassette with typed, annotated transcripts for each side. Subjects covered include: Side one: the story of Emiko San and the testimony of her husband Kenso Nakagawa regarding their decision to go to Afghanistan in 1973; the story of Pauline Short in Afghanistan; thoughts about old age and death; a recent visit from Japanese friends; meeting Michiko in Bristol. Side two: Ada Wright's memories of Emiko and Kenso Nakagawa's family; Michiko's baptism; Violet McGrath. The recordings end in 1985, but the second transcript also includes: the text of letters from Emiko and Kenso dated Oct 1985, Feb 1986 and April 1986; a note about Janet's death by Ada Wright; the text of Samuel Poley's letter announcing Janet's death (1986); a poem by Ella Rowcroft (1898); the text of letters from Emiko and Kenso in Pakistan to Samuel Poley [Poly] dated August 1986, November 1986, December 1986 and June 1987 and an extract from a letter from Miss Mary Frances Holdcroft describing Janet's funeral.
