Summary: Forty-seven additional oral history interviews conducted by Andrew Whitehead between 1992 and 2008, relating to the Partition of India and the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947. These include interviews recorded with witnesses to an attack on the Catholic mission at Baramulla, Kashmir in 1947, as well as activists, cultural workers, military officers and politicians. The bulk of these interviews were recorded as research by Whitehead for the BBC Radio 4 programme 'An Incident in Kashmir (2003) and his book 'A Mission in Kashmir' (Viking, 2007). Also included are a few earlier interviews, including those with Communist Party of India activists and senior British Raj era officials, which were recorded in the 1990s for the BBC World Service radio series 'India: A People Partitioned' (1997) but not included with the main deposit of sound recordings. There are also a smaller number of interviews with witnesses to Partition, conducted by Whitehead between 2006 and 2007 in Delhi and London in preparation for a possible 'Partition Voices' book and project.

Extent: 47 sound recordings
Note: "In all cases, those interviewed knew that their words were likely to be in the public domain. There was no concealed recording and no concealed purpose. Some interviews were conducted on my behalf by colleagues, and I would like to acknowledge their kindness and professionalism. In all such cases, the name of the interviewer is included in the notes that follow", Andrew Whitehead, May 2009.
