Admin history: Krishna Baldev Vaid was born in Dinga, West Punjab [part of modern-day Pakistan]. He fled to Amritsar and then Jallandar in 1947. He gained a Masters degree from Panjab University, Chandigarh in 1949 and a PhD from Harvard University in 1967. He taught English at the University of Delhi, Brandeis University and the State University, New York. He has written forty books, including 'The Broken Mirror', a Hindi novel which portrays the transformations in a West Punjabi village leading up to the Partition.
