Admin history: Bhisham Sahni was a Hindi novelist, playwright and political activist. Born in Rawalpindi in August 1915 into a Hindu Punjabi family, he was educated at the Government College in Lahore and Khalsa College, Amritsar. He was an activist in the Quit India movement and was working for the Congress party at the time of Partiton. Travelled to Delhi in August 1947 to attend Independence celebrations and was unable to return. Between 1957 and 1963, he lived in Moscow and worked as a translator.
