Summary: This Apatani man, with child in one hand and mug of rice beer in the other, is sitting on a ritual platform : He wears his hair in the traditional manner, with a metal skewer through a tight knot, and he wears the typical small brass earrings : Hanging from his neck, and visible between his legs, is a bamboo sheath holding a small knife, which is used when the larger machete is not necessary : the large bamboo mug, with cane work, is a more formal vessel than the tube of bamboo he holds in his left hand : Both are used primarily for drinking rice beer : the young child wears a typical necklace of glass beads and metal bracelets.
