Summary: |
In the centre of this village is an Apatani ritual platform, with a number of thick and wide planks : Each platform is owned by a different clan or set of clans, and several are found in each Apatani village, where they serve as a stage for major ceremonies : a second platform is visible here in the background : In the foreground are the hardwood planks that will be used to replace the old, rotting ones on the platform behind them : Platforms are usually repaired when the village is playing host during the Myoko festival in March : the tall poles seen in this photograph were also erected during this festival. |
