These Apatani men are on a ritual platform in the centre of a village : Owned by a different clan or set of clans, several platforms are found in each village, where they are used as a stage for major ritual events : Both these men wear the traditional hair style knot with skewer, string of metal beads on the hair line and small earring hanging from a cane ring in the lobe : the man standing wears the traditional, and by this time largely discarded, cane belt and cloth penis cover : He also wears the traditional bands of cane below the knee and a jacket that became popular after the 1950s : Hanging from this man's neck is a needle-like piece of metal useful for many tasks, such as basket-making : Hanging from the neck of the squatting man is a traditional pair of jungle cat teeth. |
