Summary: |
These two Apatani men and a boy are standing near Christoph von Fürer-Haimendorf's camp site in the Apatani valley : all three wear their hair in the traditional fashion, twisted into a knot secured with a metal skewer : they also wear the typical red cane belt and cotton penis cover : the boy in the background wears the traditional string of metal beads on the hair line : the man on the left, who seems to be demonstrating something for the camera, wears a rain shield on his back : Made of bamboo and cane, it has a ‘shelf’ that can be used for carrying loads as well as flipped up to cover the head when it rains : Hanging from the neck of the man on the right we can see the small knife carried by most Apatani men, which complements the machete they also carry : In this image only the boy in the centre carries a machete. |
