Summary: This Apatani man, posing for the camera in 1962, wears the traditional hair style knot with skewer, and small rings hanging from cane rings in his ear lobes : the pair of jungle cat teeth hanging around his neck was also popular, and smaller versions are still worn today : the safety pin on his machete shoulder strap was a prized possession in the 1940s, traded up from Assam, and soon became widespread : His jacket is more recent, and may be the red jacket given by the government to 'village headmen' in the 1940s and later.
