Summary: Crossed the Orange River at Priestcar [Preiska]; waggon wheel has broken owing to the great weight being transported (goods to be handed out); arrival of George [George Fleming] in Kuruman after some delay - will now help him on; relieved to be away from the Cape Colony; Edwards has left his station and the people of Mabotsa have come over to Sechele; Boers encamped at Mabotsa contemplating an attack on Sechele; loss of some of his oxen in the Orange River; has been working on an analysis of the Bechuana language [first draft, dated August 1852, of 'Analysis of the Language of the Bechuanas']; letter sent to brother containing "Sandillah's speech to Renton" to be printed in America [Sandile was one of the leading Xhosa chiefs fighting against the Cape Colony, and Henry John Renton was a Scottish clergyman]; refers to Moffat's letter which describes the Boer attack on the baKwena at Dimawe [30 August] and the sack of David Livingstone's premises at Kolobeng - mourns the loss of his books ("I had a fine medical library, and many good works on general subjects", medicines and instruments; parties of Boers are heading for Sebitoane's [Sebetwane's] region, but will be cut of by Sechele's people; sends two letters for Mrs Livingstone.
