Summary: Has reached Paarl; resolve not to give any further public speeches [Livingstone's uvula had been cut off at Cape Town, but he still found it difficult to deliver long addresses]; refers to George [George Fleming, a West Indian living in Cape Town who had been one of William Oswell's servants on the journeys to Lake Ngami (1849) and Sebetwane's country (1851). It had been arranged that he would accompany Livingstone and trade among the Makololo] and requests him to "bring a breed of large Malay fowls" for the Makololo; Mr Read [James Read junior (1811-1894), LMS missionary at the Kat River Settlement] will go a little way with him.
