Summary: Sends a paper on "Missions: the privilege of being allowed to engage in them, their future, &c &c"; Anderson has reached the lake [Charles John Anderson, 1827-1867; the first European to reach the Lake Ngami from the West in July 1852]; watch given to him by the Geographical Society "is an excellent one, and have corrected several errors in Longitude by its means, but send my observations to Mr Maclear for verification before publishing them" - comments "It is probable the Lake is wrong, as we never attempted or could attempt to establish its Longitude. We never had watches worth anything"; conviction that in going into the Interior "I am doing something for God"; illness and exhaustion from fever, including vertigo; discusses his spirits; only thoughts of longing are for his family; has sent a packet of seeds for the Botanic gardens, collected on his journey.
