In 4 mos. has disposed of the £3,000,000 Silver taken over at time of Indian Specie Bk failure. It is a great relief; it has added greatly to my work and worry', 2; to Morocco for Bank of Morocco meeting with sons George and William. JUNE Son John born, 11; to Paris for Bank of Morocco meeting.J ULY Meetings with Newton Stabb of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), 'a fine manly modest fellow. I wish he could write as he talks. Able in a way but limited,' 4; son Tom operation for removal of head tumour; family holiday at Gulval, Cornwall. AUGUST Much work occasioned by declaration of war, demands for gold, problems over position of Germans in England and trading with Germans in the East. SEPTEMBER Son Tom enlists as private. DECEMBER Addis concerned with positions of Japan, Germany and the Consortium due to the war.
