G.S. Mackenzie to Col. Euan Smith Details of Rev. Price's confirmation of arrangements regarding runaway slaves. Later Rev. Price informed G.S. Mackenzie of mistakes in no. of such slaves at mission. The slaves intended to resist being returned to masters. To avoid trouble G.S. Mackenzie suggested to Hamid-bin-Suliman that the slaves be freed by purchase & money given to owners. Suggests Col. E. Smith issues permits for settlement at mission by freed slaves which would provide evidence in any later dispute. Still wants elected representative from IBEA Co. at mission.

IBEA Co.'s control of administration almost worked out. Baraza held 19 Oct in presence of Hamid Bin Suliman - successful. Mr. Price (C.M.S.) gives assurance that mission will no longer harbour runaway slaves. IBEA Co. rep. could live at mission to supervise this - accepted by locals. Copy of Elders' grievances against mission & how they can be rectified.
