Admin history: Urvashi Butalia was born in 1952 in Ambala, Haryana. She gained a BA in Literature at Miranda House, Delhi University (1971), a MA in Literature at Delhi University (1973), and a MA in South Asian Studies at the University of London (1977). In 1984, Butalia and her partner Ritu Menon, co-founded Kali for Women, the first feminist publishing house in India. In 2003, following the closure of Kali for Women, she founded Zubaan Books.
