Summary: |
On the left is the famous standing Buddha image at Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka. About seven metres tall, it is thought by some to represent the Buddha's first disciple, Ananda, but others believe it is an image of the Buddha himself. We also see the reclining Buddha, which shows him reaching his final nirvana at death. About 14 metres long, it was carved in the 12th or 13th century. The standing image was created at the same time. |
