Summary: During the Myoko festival (late March to mid-April), Apatanis used to perform acrobatics, swinging on a thick cane rope tied to two tall poles. These poles, cut from hardwood and approximately 15-20 metres, are erected on or near a ritual platform in the village playing host to other villages during the festival. Although most of the high-flyers were men, women also enjoyed the fun. This woman appears to be applauding or watching others swinging above her. The acrobatics are still performed, though not as frequently as in the past.
