Begins with a description of taking over the mission at Demerara, which had been vacant for 12 months following the departure of John Wray. Journal describes in detail the activities of the mission, including preaching the Gospel to the free and enslaved populations. Refers to the attitude of the local planters and the Governor towards his preaching. Comments on increasing attendance at religious services, and describes his preaching activities on a day to day basis. Includes comments upon the estates, including on the relationships between enslaved peoples, overseers and planters.
