Thanks for letter of December 5; repeats much of his reply to it. Refutes any desire of 'assuming the character of a gentleman'. Where proprietor is absent, or unwilling, as is Mr. Robley, that he should live on their Estate, this cannot be done as the manager cannot entertain on the minimum allowance he gets for food; this is barely enough for his own needs.
