description Bitton was accompanied by Arthur Burns and Stanley Toms in his visit to the congregational churches of South Africa and the General Assembly of the Congregational Union at Uitenhage, Cape Province [South Africa]. The snapshots were taken by Toms and Bitton. It has been difficult to ascertain the original order of the photographs in the album and some shots are missing. Groups include: congregation of the New Vale Church, Orange Free State [South Africa]; Congregational Union of South Africa Autumn Assembly; Principal Rev [Alfred] Haile and staff, Tiger Kloof [South Africa, previously British Bechuanaland]; congregation at Hope Fountain, Bulawayo [Southern Rhodesia, later Zimbabwe], after Armistice Day service; group outside and deacons of Bethelsdorp Church [South Africa]. Other people include: Bitton; [Jane] Smith [nee Jane McCandlish]; Burns; [Gladys] Brown; [Janet] Bryson; Mr and Mrs Farquhar.
