Reports on the progress of several of his students, including Mr Parker, Mr Livingstone [David Livingstone], Mr Moore [Joseph Moore] and Mr Hay [John Hay], and in each case coments on their character and suitability for the mission field. He also discusses the content of the missionary training programme with its emphasis on the study of Latin and Greek, and the alternative of offering studies in arithmetic, natural history, philosophy, mental science and Biblical theology. He also informs the Directors that he has taken new lodgings for his students in the form of three small houses, and invites a deputation from Mission House to come and see these arrangements.

Rev Richard Cecil (d. 1863) was a minister and tutor at Chipping Ongar [Essex] from 1838 to 1847, and before and after these dates at Turvey [Bedfordshire]. His Dissenting Academy is recorded as a preparatory academy for Home and Foreign Missionary students from 1830. David Livingstone was amongst the missionary students trained by him. |
