Summary: |
Journal of James Newell, 1894, giving a brief account and general opinion of his visit to the stations of the Ellice [Tuvalu] and Gilbert Islands [Kiribati] accompanied by Miss Elizabeth Moore. These stations had not been visited the previous year as there was risk of transmitting a measles epidemic from Samoa. He records the deaths of a number of native pastors, and the transfer of others to different islands. He notes the need for regular visiting of these out stations and looks foward to the arrival of the steamer John Williams to facilitate such voyages. |
