The initial deposit of portraits was arranged in two series, with those from the period pre-1945 found in Series 1 (boxes 1-6), and those from post-1945 found in Series 2 (boxes 9-12). Within each of the two series, portraits are arranged alphabetically by missionary, with the portraits of married couples being filed together. The collection also includes copies of engravings of London Missionary Society missionaries taken from the 'Evangelical Magazine' (box 7), a collection of portraits and engravings of miscellaneous individuals associated with the work of the London Missionary Society, including ministers, family members of missionaries and Secretaries of the Society (box 8), and images of London Missionary Society Associates and 'overseas leaders', being figures of significance for the Society and its history (Box 12). Later additions to the collection comprise portraits from the 1960s to the early 1990s, including missionaries whose service began with the London Missionary Society and ended with the Council for World Mission, following its creation in 1977, and those missionaries who transferred their service from the English Presbyterian Mission in the 1970s. Within each set portraits are arranged alphabetically by missionary.
