description |
Conrady, Li and others have noticed the Tibetan sound changes *ḫz > ḫdz and *ḫź > ḫǰ, but there is also evidence for the changes *dz > z and *ǰ > ź (first noted by Schiefner). After presenting the evidence for *dz > z and *ǰ > ź respectively, this paper considers the other origins of ź, namely *lʲ and *rʲ. Finally, an attempt is made to establish the relative chronology of the changes proposed. |
