Summary: |
B&W photographic print. 'The central post is decorated with two realistically carved male figures in high relief, their eyes picked out in white. The connection with fertility is obvious. There are also carvings of human heads. Stuck in the ground outside is a bunch of tall reeds or bamboos whose purpose is unknown. However, among the Eastern Rengma this is done beside a man's burial platform to show the number of lovers he has had, so this may be a similar custom.' |
