Summary: B&W photographic print. 'The mithun (Bos frontalis) plays an important part in ceremonial life. It is a semi-domesticated type of bovine which normally roams free in the jungle, being fed salt occasionally by its owner. This animal may have been sacrificed for one of a series of Feasts of Merit which are an important way for an individual to gain status, and which entitle him to wear distinctive cloths. The giver of the feast provides food and rice beer for his fellow villagers, thus redistributing his accumulated wealth among them.'
