description |
B&W photographic print. 'This is an Ao Morung of the eastern type. The front third of the structure forms a sort of deep open porch and is decorated with huge tassels of plant fibre. Dimly seen behind are the pillars supporting the roof, which are elaborately carved and in this case hung with mithun and buffalo skulls. In front there is a large platform on which the men sit and talk. The Morung performs the dual function of guard house and men's club, and it is forbidden for women to enter it.' |
