Summary: Some letters refer to Addis's plans to go to South Africa and the departure for that destination of his friend Fleming. Others refer to his application to join the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) and his early employment with the Bank, especially letters from brother George of the Chartered Mercantile Bank of India, London and China in the East who writes, 'Of all the Eastern Exchange banks I would rather see you in the Hkg [sic] than in any other.
