JANUARY Food parcels received from North America; to Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), 'besieged with enquiries' about the situation in Hong Kong. FEBRUARY Attends meetings about the position of the Consortium during the war with Japan, 'At my earnest protest action deferred pending further consideration', 2; further operation, 7, and diary written by Lady Addis. MARCH Addis, recovered, resumes journeys to London to Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), P&O, University Court and the Bank of England, 'A long gossip with the Governor. His contempt of Kingsley Wood as Chancellor of the Exchequer was amusing.' 19. MAY At British and Chinese Corporation (B&C Corp.). meeting, urges members to present facts, not opinions to the public; talks with Morse at Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) over British and Chinese Corporation (B&C Corp.). and the Consortium. 'He fears China may be suspicious even of underhand dealing with Japan to the prejudice of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC). NOVEMBER 'City cock-a-whoop over the landings in Algiers, Tunis & Morocco', 9; falls and damages hand, 'I really must cease running after trains & busses!' 27.
