Smart, Addis's successor, 'He will have a trying time here', 11; Addis's speech on the introduction of the Bible into the Public School well received; family leaves Shanghai. MAY Arrives London; sightseeing, family visits and to Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC). 'Everyone very busy over the new Japanese loan which was subscribed 30 times over', 11; leaves London for Edinburgh. OCTOBER Son Tom starts school at Edinburgh Academy. NOVEMBER Son George born, 22; Addis visits Hamburg and Berlin, during staff illness in Hamburg. 'It was interesting to meet many men whose names I had known for years but whose faces I had never seen.' 3.
