FEBRUARY Leaves for Calcutta, with family remaining in Hankow and is taken ill on the journey; many references to his own illness and that of his wife.
MAY Comments on the exchange rate 'Silver has all gone to the dogs since Japan declared for a gold standard.' 6; very bored alone in Calcutta, 'We are well paid no doubt, but.... it is hard earned money.' 10.
JUNE Joined by family; house damaged by earthquake.
JULY Heat riots in Calcutta.
AUGUST Mrs Addis writes that her husband 'dreams of his work and thinks of it constantly.' 31.
NOVEMBER Mrs Addis writes 'Our great desire is to settle at Home.' (Scotland), 16.
DECEMBER Much hard work and anxiety caused by a sudden increase in demand for loans.
