Social events including dinners and other visiting, entertainments, meetings of the Chinese reading club, church attendance and journeys outside Peking to the Western Hills and to search for deserted villages. Records arrivals and departures of acquaintances including Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) staff. From June onwards the entries are sparse and infrequent.
