JANUARY Attends the Gilbart lectures at King's College, a series of lectures on financial matters given by the statistician, Professor Leone Levi. FEBRUARY Continues to attend Gilbart lectures and takes examination. MARCH Receives certificate for Gilbart lectures; visited by Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) colleague Lamond, 'a good hearted pleasant fellow, amusing in his frankness'. 27. MAY Begins study of Chinese, 'Must try to do an hour at Chinese every night except Wednesday'. 22. JUNE One of eight selected by G.H. Burnett to do extra evening work on deposit receipts.
