Summary: Series of correspondence and papers dated 1857-892, concerning Mackinnon's work as Director of the City of Glasgow Bank, and in particular the legal case brought against him by the liquidators of the Bank following the crash of 1878.Comprises correspondence with senior staff and directors of the Bank, including Sir W. Dunbar, dated 1864-1881, John Fleming, 1864-1876, Alexander Stronach 1857-1869, and his brother Robert Stronach 1869-1870, documents relating to the first Bank crash in 1857 and press cuttings from the Glasgow Heraldcovering the fraud case brought against Bank's directors in 1878. The bulk of the papers dated 1860s-1881 relate specifically to the case of the `Liquidators of the City of Glasgow Bank v. William Mackinnon', and the construction of Mackinnon's legal defence. This includes correspondence with Murray, Beith & Murray (Mackinnon's defence lawyers) and Wyllie Guild (accountant and financial expert), and memos and documents relating to American railroad securities and bonds, which formed the basis of charges brought against Mackinnon.
