James M. Hall to William Mackinnon. Written from London; just returned from Manchester and Liverpool; Dr Duncan Begg improving after stroke, but feeble; invitation and anger with brother Donald over "Cawnpore business" blamed; Glasgow not telegraphed arrival of William Mackinnon 's last letter. Re contracts William Mackinnon has been arranging with Indian Government. Begg doubtful of value of Bushire extension and Madras-Rangoon even with improved subsidy (JMH concurs) Pleased (JMH) with Bombay-Calcutta re-arrangements; trade good if subsidy 'R7,500) no more than that for Calcutta - Rangoon-Singapore (JMH wonders about extra leg on this run.). Smaller steamer for Calcutta-Bombay perhaps dangerous in monsoon season. Karachi agreement best - wants to order a new steamer for it straightaway. Because of his health, nothing to Begg about extension of their contract as agents.
