Work among women in the Rajshahi district was first carried out by the wife of Dr Donald Morison, the first PCE missionary who arrived in 1878. The first WMA woman missionary arrived in 1880, followed by two others shortly afterwards. A higher-grade girls' school was opened in 1880 and zenana visitations were also carried out. Women's medical work was begun at Naogaon where the main mission hospital had transferred around 1909. A dispensary for women was set up at Rajshahi by Dr Ella Morison, the daughter of Donald Morison. Later a small women's hospital was built but remained closed after 1937. |
