The Anglo-Chinese School at Kulangsu, Amoy [Xiamen] was founded by the London Missionary Society who offered it to the PCE in 1899. H.F Rankin became Principal of the College, his salary as well as a new college building being paid for by Dr G.F Barbour, a long-time benefactor of the English Presbyterian Mission. The syllabus of the College was that of a secondary school leading on to university. Half the subjects were in English and half in Chinese. The Collge proved popular with attendance between 150 and 200. |
