scb_admin_history Inder Cheema was born in Srinagar. In 1947, very shortly before tribesmen attacked Baramulla, Kashmir, he was evacuated to Srinagar (along with his aunt Pam and her two young children). His mother, Leela Thompson, was then already in Srinagar. His father, a Sikh, had died a few years earlier.
