Admin history: Major Frederic Benjamin ('Ben') Suter was born in London in 1920. He was the son of Albert Frederick Suter (1882-1966) and Ethel Beatrice Powlowski (1881-1944). He attended Sandhurst in 1939 and was commissioned into the British Indian Army in 1940. He served during the Second World War with the South Waziristan Scouts (NW Frontier Corps) & 3rd Battalion Sikh Regiment (Rattrays Sikhs). Suter learnt Urdu and Pushtu.
