scb_admin_history Badruddin Umar was born in West Bengal on 20 December 1931. His father was the Abul Hashim, the leftist General Secretary of the Muslim League in Bengal province in 1947. Umar obtained an MA in Philosophy from Dhaka University and degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) from the University of Oxford. He taught at Dhaka University and political science and sociology at Rajshahi University. Umar joined at East Pakistan Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist) in 1969 and edited the party's journal 'Saptahik Ganashakti' until 1971. Umar later became President of the Bangladesh Krishak Federation [Bangladesh Peasant Federation] and Bangladesh Lekhak Shibir, a progressive literary-cultural organisation.
