Admin history: H.K. Burki was born into a Pathan family in Jalandhar. He was in Lahore during Partition and travelled to Jalandhar to help family leave. He became a hockey player and was captain of the Pakistan national team. He became a journalist on 'Pakistan Times' and spent 10 years working in London for the 'Picture Post'. He married an Irish-national.
