L.K. Advani was born in Karachi in 1927 to a Hindu Sindhi family. He was educated at D G National College in Hyderabad, Sindh and the Government Law College, Mumbai University. In 1947, Advani was Secretary of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Karachi. He left Karachi in September 1947 following Partition. Advani became a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the organisations first President. He became Member of Parliament for Gandhinagar (1998 onwards). Advani served as Minister of Home Affairs (1998-2004); Leader of Opposition (Lok Sabha) (2004-2009); and Deputy Prime Minister of India (2002-2004). |
