Summary: |
Mail Art. This drawing is a parody of Vincent van Gogh’s The Bedroom at Arles (1889) in which Musa inserts the iconic artist comfortably in the safe space of his bedroom. Musa and van Gogh have commonalities; they share the location of their second homes in southern France - Arles is an hour from Musa’s village, the traumas of being an artist, self-portraiture and prolific letter writing. Van Gogh wrote to his brother Theo about his efforts to paint this scene that he deemed was one of his best (4/5 September 1889, p. 41, Vincent van Gogh Paintings & Drawings A Choice from the collection of the Vincent van Gogh Foundation. Amsterdam, 1973.)
