scb_admin_history The hospital was created as a permanent memorial to Lord Kitchener (1850-1916), a British Field Marshall and colonial administrator, following his death in 1916. The Egyptian National Fund in Memory of the Late Lord Kitchener recommended the building of a hospital for women and a School of Gynaecology. A building was purchased in 1923 to accommodate the first 50 beds, and by 1929, the School of Medicine for Women, the Training School for Nurses and the Kitchener Hospital for Women and Children were well established.
