description Subjects: 1) The Japanese invasion of Shandong opens with a diversionary attack on Teng-chow. 2) An outspoken attack on Chinese morality, especially the elite. 3) On the corruption of government departments, and of the need for total reform. Proposes that management of more Chinese government department be handed over to European management, but also worries that the British Navy is meddling too much in the war. 4) Prefers to trust in the Lord rather than English sailors in the event of any attack. 5) Refers to Constance as a splendid mother (far better than he expected), but says that Pearl needs occasional chastisement.
