description Volume containing cuttings from newspapers, a few periodicals and the odd whole pamphlet relating to civil unrest in China which was often directed at foreigners (including Christian missionaries). Cuttings, etc, cover the period 1884 until 1900, often citing the original source and are written almost entirely in English. A small number of articles are by Sir Robert Hart and Rev William Arthur Cornaby, with the latter contributing a page of notes entitled 'China The Tragedy of 1900'. There are also a couple of cuttings on the Communist revolution between 1948 and 1952. With handwritten index at front of volume. Volume may have been compiled by Timothy Richards and/or Cornaby. Neither of these men could have added the cuttings on the Communist revolution.
