Admin history: George Stainton Marris, the elder son of the Rev George Marris (1854-1952) who served as a Methodist missionary in China, was born at Oxford in 1885. After being educated at Hull and Owen's College Manchester he undertook a Bachelor of the Arts London Degree at Handsworth College. He entered the Wesleyan Methodist ministry in 1907 and was dispatched to India.
